Stereophile - UNO 2.0

(sharing honors with the $85,000/pair Dynaudio Evidence)

Stereophile Class A Recommended Components rating consistently* since October 2000 - UNO 2.0

* To insure that such listings remain up-to-date when new iteratons of a Recommended Component have appeared, the magazine routinely performs follow-up reviews.

(to be eligible for unqualified Class A, a system must be full-range, i.e. feature bass extension to 20Hz. It must also be capable of reaching realistic sound-pressure levels without any feeling of strain. Otherwise it is downgraded into "Restricted Extreme LF Class A".)

In 2000 when the UNO 2.0 was first entered into this listing, Stereophile Class A consisted of 24 speaker systems. Of these, only 12 were considered truly full-range. Of these twelve, the median price was double that of the UNO 2.0. In fact, the UNO rubbed shoulders with the $85,000 Dynaudio Evidence, the $39,000 Wilson Audio Specialties MAXX, the $30,000 JMlab Utopia and the $22,000 Sonus Faber Amati Hommage.

How would the Avantgarde Acoustic DUO and TRIO be rated if the less expensive UNO already achieved a Best-of-Best rating?
